“I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can’t see from the center.” (Kurt Vonnegut)
A technology advisor, investor and connector, I help people and organisations navigate the rapidly evolving big, open, personal and smart data landscapes to find new value from data and digital assets.
Cloud, application, analytical and data technologies are transforming personal and business environments – “business as usual” is not a sustainable option.
The “Internet of Humans” and the “Internet of Things” are generating exponential amounts of data, and exposing new opportunities and risks around issues of trust, privacy, provenance, transparency, and ownership. The challenge for organisations and individuals are to understand what this means for them, and what to do about it… and there are big questions about our personal data – the “Internet of Me”.
I draw on more than 25yrs of experience leading data centric initiatives across local and global enterprises. A pre-”Big Data” big data pioneer, I began my (big) data journey by championing one of the first and largest data warehouse projects in Australia with the Australian Taxation Office. I have since worked across the Asia Pacific region on building teams and leading projects across IT, healthcare, logistics, banking, retail and banking sectors with organisations such as Teradata, HP, EMC, Mayne Group, HDFC Bank and China Mobile.
I now prefer to indulge my interests mentoring, collaborating and supporting data technology providers and start-ups, as well as private, public and not-for-profit sector organisations to explore new ways of thinking about data and new business models for realising value.
I holds a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) from the University of South Australia and an MBA (Asia Business) from the Australian National University.
